Skirt

No Pattern Maxi Skirt for American Girl Dolls

It’s spring already and skirts are always fashionable during this season. Inspired by all the bohemian style I have been seeing lately, I decided to sew maxi skirts for my daughter’s dolls. Here are the skirts I made and below it are the measurements/tutorial if you want to make your own too.

NOTE:
THE ELASTIC CASING / WAISTBAND
The top tier is where I sew the casing for the elastic. I do this by folding the top edge 1/4 inch to the wrong side and then fold over again, 1/2 inch to the wrong side. I then secure it with pins and topstitch to finish.

THE HEM:
I finish the bottom tier by folding over 1/4 inch to the wrong side and then fold over another 1/4 inch and sew.

THE LENGTH:
Each skirt should approximately be 7 inches long after sewing. That is how I came up with these measurements with a 1/4 seam allowance for all.

Floral Chiffon Maxi Skirt

This maxi skirt is modeled by McKenna. The fabric I used is here is chiffon, though you can use cotton or any fabric you have on hand.
3.25 inches long x 14 inches wide – 1st tier
2.75 inches long x 28 inches wide – 2nd tier
3.25 inches long x 44 inches wide – 3rd tier
4 Tiered Maxi Skirt
This is Jessica, my daughter’s first doll. This is a four tiered skirt and has a wider hip measurement. For this skirt, I made the tiers almost equal in width, around 1.75 each tier after sewing.

2.75 inches long x 16 inches wide – 1st tier (elastic casing included)

2.25 inches long x 24 inches wide – 2nd tier

2.25 inches long x 32 inches wide – 3rd tier

2.5 inches long x 44 inches wide – 4th tier (bottom)

Bsic Maxi Skirt
Kanani is wearing a headband for a little bohemian flair and a name shirt which I designed through iron on transfer. This skirt has the same width for all the tiers as McKenna’s but differ in length for each tier, so it looks like a totally different skirt.

2.25 inches long x 14 inches wide – 1st tier

4.5 inches long x 28 inches wide – 2nd tier

2.5 inches long x 44 inches wide – 3rd tier.
