I’ve been wanting a rack for hanging the clothes I sew for my daughter’s American Girl Dolls. However, I find the wardrobe rack being sold online expensive and most of them are short. So I thought I would just make one. It was actually my husband’s idea to use PVC pipes and I love it. It is very easy and cheap to make;a 10 feet PVC pipe costs less than $2.00 and the joints are less than $.50 cents each. I made two of these, one for my daughter and one for me.
Photo above is the clothes rack in my daughter’s doll house. This is the product of the tutorial I posted here.
Photo above is the longer version of the clothes rack in my sewing room. It is 3 feet long. I love that the clothes are nicely hanged and it looks like I have a little boutique (so cute). If you are an etsy seller, this is a fun way for you to display all your beautiful creations :).
So here is the tutorial, mostly pictures and they are self-explanatory.
MATERIALS:
I bought the PVC pipes from Lowes. For cutting the pipes, I use a PVC cutter and it only costs $10 if you want to buy it. You can try asking the workers in Lowes, they might be nice enough to cut it for you if you don’t want to buy the cutter.
Cut your pipes according to the following measurements. For the joints, make sure you buy the slip kind. Also, please note that all pipes and joints are 1/2 inch in diameter.
Pipe A: 20 inches (this is how long the rack will be, you can lengthen or shorten it)
Pipe B: 15 inches (this is how tall the rack will be plus a few inches more when the joints are attached)
Pipe C: 5 inches (this will be the support for the base)
Joint A – you need 2 pieces (they are called 90 deg, side outlet elbow, 3 way)
Joint B – you need 2 pieces (they are called 90 deg, side outlet elbow)

This is great! I just found you on YouTube and shared your video about making no-sew tutus to my facebook page. I've tried to subscribe but the button won't let me (server issues). I'll try again! Nice clear blog- like it very much! Maxine

You can also have on a North Encounter Denali fleece as an outer layer to block mild rain and snow. three) People decide on boutiques in excess of giant section retailers for distinct factors. If you are browsing for higher trend then you will very likely have to have someone to help you distinguish between the unique trends.
Thanks for sharing your great idea and such clear instructions! I have quite a bit of leftover PVC pipe ends and some joints that are exactly like these, and I've been looking for just the right project to use them for. Since I've also been wanting to make some hanging storage for my dd's AG clothes, this seems like a perfect fit.
I'm glad you like it.

I made your clothes rack. love it. Thanks so much for your help. Proud you are back. Looking forward to more of your fabulous designs.
Just made this for my granddaughter Lilly. She loves it. I added end caps to leg supports for finishing touch. Please advise how to get the markings off the pvc pipes.
Use acetone, comes right off. Can get the pure acetone in nail polish remover or also buy at hardware. Fumes strong.... They do make colored pic which has no markings much more expensive though. Also some folks paint or woodgrain this...
i have made several of these.... i gently sand them down then spray paint them.
Jeg har svært ved at vælge skrifttyper og farver. Der er så mange muligheder, jeg ved ikke, hvad gode koonbiatimner. En episode for at tale om detaljer som disse ville være awesome.
