With the 100 degrees temperature already hitting Phoenix, it’s time for some comfy outfits for our dolls. So I drafted a very easy pattern for shorts; it’s so simple to make, it took me less than 30 minutes to sew one. So here goes the pattern and the tutorial. Enjoy!
Please note that all seams are sewn at 1/4 inch. You can download the pattern here–> shorts-pattern.
1. Above are the two fabric pieces after cutting according to the pattern. Zigzag all edges.
2. With right sides together, sew on the sides as indicated by the black lines in the photo.
3. Open the fabric and move the the sewn sides in the middle so you can join the pieces that will form the inner leg.
4. Sew the fabric together on the inner leg area as indicated by the black lines on the photo above.
5. Fold the top edge about 3/8 towards the wrong side and sew to make the waistband. Leave about 3/4 inch opening for feeding the elastic through. Also, make sure that the 1/4 inch elastic can fit in it.
6. Feed a 10 1/2 inch elastic through the casing. Sew the ends of the elastic together. Sew the opening to finish the waistband.
7. Hem the bottom according to how long or short you want it and you’re done.
8. For the shorts that Saige is wearing, I used a denim fabric and I topstitch it to make a faux zipper and pockets on the side.

Thank you for this pattern and instructions. I enjoy them.
Just a bit easier, but not as neat as your way, to use flat construction method of putting in the elastic before stitching the back seam.
Thanks so much for your pattern! enJOYed the post and have pinned it to my doll patterns board.
You have a point there :) because in my pants video and my other skirt tutorial, I actually used the flat construction method for putting the elastic. I might have to add that because I do have a lot of followers who are beginner sewers. Thanks for pointing that out.
Darling look. Thank you so much for sharing your tutorial.

Have fun making them.
I love your pattern for the shorts and the mock fly and pockets. Thank you.
You're welcome.
I tried this and it worked perfectly, but for some reason the "sleeves" were a little too big. :)
I'll check my pattern to see if I uploaded the correct one.
Thank you so much for this cute pattern!
I just LOVED your pattern. My niece just bought an AG doll so I have decided to sew and crochet her some clothing to give when she comes for a visit soon. I sewed a pair of these shorts out of a cotton fabric to get the feel for the pattern. Then I tried it out of some scrap denim..... Oh, how I wish I could show you a picture of the shorts!!!! I did a faux zipper and pockets like you did and on the back a pocket and embroidered a pink daisy on the pocket. I just love how it turned out ....and such an easy pattern with great instruction and pictures. Thank you. Bless you for sharing this fun stuff.
Thank you for sharing your info. I really appreciate your efforts and
