Peplums are very much in trend so I thought of making this tutorial for American Girl Dolls. It’s very simple to make since there is no pattern needed. And I think these peplum skirts look chic and smart on Jessica and Ivy. Here are my measurements and instructions – have fun sewing !!!
Gather the strip of fabric to make the ruffle until its the same width as the waistband and skirt. |
Put the ruffle on top of the fabric for the main skirt and sew. |
With right sides together, sew the waistband on top of the ruffle and skirt. |
Turn the waistband over, folding the raw edge about 1/4 inch to the inside. Sew or top stitch about 1/8 inch away from the ruffle. |
Using a safety pin, feed a 1/4 inch wide elastic through the waistband (must be 10 1/2 inches long) and secure with pins. |
Turn the skirt to the wrong side and a sew 1/4 inch seam to finish. |

Thank you for this blog! You are so creative and generous. Thank you!!
This is adorable and creative! You're TOMS shoe tutorial brought me here, and I've favorited! The only problem I will have is adjusting the measurements for my cousin's BFC Ink dolls. (They don't like AG because they aren't jointed) Thanks so much!
Thanks, the best way is to tape it on your doll's foot while doing it so you'll get the perfect fit.
Such a cute pattern. Is it made with a knit fabric or cotton broadcloth?
Thanks. I used cotton fabric for this.
is there any where i can print the pattern? also is there any good place to buy ag doll wigs? ok thanks.
Hi...there is no pattern to print, you just need to follow the measurements I wrote above. You can buy wig from ebay and rubyred, here's the link - http://www.rubyredgalleria.com/
Love it. Made one already. Do you make your tops too? I've been searching for some tops to go with all the
fabulous skirt patterns you share. Thanks so much.
can't wait to try this I am going to make some tonight, thanks for patterns
You're welcome.
TY for sharing this tutorial. I am in the middle of making this & the part where you cut out everything was quite confusing. I reversed it W & L then I was ok. lol Now I am reday to put the seam in the back. I hope this isn't a stupid question but do you hem the ruffle and the skirt or just use fray check so it doesn't fry? HELP I am almost finished. So far I love it!!
Hi Hon, No change. I have to hit the +1 butotn and then find your website from there as others are listed too not just yours. Then it only takes me to the post page with the comments - which doesnt have a comments box - have to press this - Publicar un comentario en la entrada to get to your comments box. Xxxx
Its better to hem that so it would be clean.
thanks so much for your post very helpful my new granddaughter will be thrilled. I am also going out to get ducktape to make tom shoes THANKS
